Filming

I am not sure if there are any reliable sources that say when filming for the project would begin. Can someone find more reliable sources for this article? 2607:FEA8:761B:C900:80C9:C7F:2C6D:481D (talk) 16:03, 29 April 2023 (UTC)

Filming already began according to the director (https://www.sltrib.com/artsliving/2024/01/14/utah-filmmakers-talk-about-their/). We should move the page to the mainspace. KingArti (talk) 15:31, 16 January 2024 (UTC)

Premise

According to a few sources I found ([1] [2]), the premise described in the article may be out of date. Looking on Google for anything else seems to generally show that the most recently known version of the plot comes from a minecraft blog post from 2019 which has since been deleted, and turnover behind the scenes has likely made this no longer accurate (at least according to the direct). Would it be worth removing the premise section until the plot is officially announced or confirmed to be as-is? Or would it be better to mention that it's still subject to change? Thanks. @Deauthorized The information from the Minecraft blog is very likely obsolete, the script has been rewritten many times since then. the premise section should be removed until a plot/premise is confirmed ExtragalacticXG (talk) 14:41, 29 February 2024 (UTC)

@Deauthorized doing a little more research, I found that the 2019 plot premise of "A teenage girl and her unlikely group of adventurers must save the Overworld after the Ender Dragon sets out on a path of destruction" was based on Peter Sollett's version of the film. However, he left the project, Jared Hess replaced him to direct, and the script was rewritten. So therefore, this premise is extremely unlikely to be accurate. • Oppose: per WP:SMALLDETAILS as an unnecessary disambiguation given that documentary film already has a full subtitle and most readers looking for a Minecraft film would be looking for this feature film, not a documentary film. Making Minecraft (film) redirect to the documentary or transforming it into a DAB are not viable options, either, and the hatnotes used at both articles currently suffice the navigation for anyone who may be looking for one or the other.   I have basically the same response as what Trail wrote below. The documentary is titled Minecraft: The Story of Mojang, making it a partial title match (see WP:TITLEPTM), whereas Minecraft is the only film titled Minecraft. Since the documentary is already happily disambiguated with its subtitle, the film is the only article that needs a parenthetical disambiguator. If Minecraft: The Story of Mojang were moved to Minecraft (2012 film), that would be a different story, but like I said, Minecraft (documentary) would be a better option in that case. (film) is also generally understood to mean "feature film" and not documentaries or short films, so I don't think anyone would be looking for the documentary when searching Minecraft (film).   There are no other films only titled "Minecraft". This is the only one. A subtitle is enough of a WP:NATURAL disambiguation for the documentary and thus mitigates the need for any further disambiguation here. As the nom has noted, WP:PRIMARYFILM is a great example of how different these two titles are to the point where further disambiguation here is unnecessary as the titles are not as closely similar. This is not a similar case of there being three "Titanic" films, Titanic (1943 film), Titanic (1953 film), and Titanic (1997 film), as these two Minecraft films do not share the same title.   As mentioned subtitles are often omitted, that is to say the 2012 one would probably be commonly called just "Minecraft" even if only sometimes. File:Minecraftthestoryofmojangposter.jpg has "Minecraft" in large text, "2PP" in smaller text and "The Story of Mojang" in smaller text. Per WP:ATDAB the fact that another may be naturally disambiguated or even have the longer name as the most common name doesn't mean the one without the subtitle can be at the partly disambiguated title.   Which part of ATDAB exactly are you invoking? Also, how the poster styles the title is irrelevant; on book covers, the author's name is often printed comically larger than the title of the book. InfiniteNexus (talk) 23:02, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

  "use only as much additional detail as necessary". How the poster styles the title is relevant as disambiguation is usually supposed to be unambiguous rather than only in some contexts. The reality is its quite likely many people would know of the 2012 one as "Minecraft" due to the poster. Wikipedia has a subtitle Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopaedia but that wouldn't mean that if there was another website called "Wikipedia" that did not have a subtitle that Wikipedia (website) would be acceptable for the other just because we have a sub title.   I agree with this opposition. By the (2025 film) logic, the Super Mario Bros. 1993 movie article should be called "Super Mario Bros. (1993 film)", which it shouldn't because, say it with me, there's only one movie with that name. SuperWikiBrother (talk) 19:39, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

  That is another example of where WP:SMALLDETAILS comes into play. That 1993 article's title and the alt title for it, Super Mario Bros.: The Movie have enough differences that distinguish it from the 2023 film The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The same applies here with the 2025 Minecraft film and the 20212 documentary. Most readers looking a Minecraft film are guaranteed to be looking for the upcoming 2025 one, not some over a decade old documentary. Trailblazer101 (talk) 20:55, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
